Description
Asomi Gamusha is a traditional Assamese garment worn by women in the state of Assam, India. It is a variation of the saree, but with a distinct style and drape. The word "Asomi" means Assamese and "Gamusha" means cloth.
The Asomi Gamusha is made from a single piece of cloth, usually cotton or silk, and is about seven to nine yards long. It is usually woven with intricate designs and patterns, often depicting Assamese cultural motifs such as the one-horned rhinoceros, tea plantations, or the Muga silk worm.
The Gamusha is worn by draping it around the waist, with one end pleated and tucked into the waistband, and the remaining length draped over the shoulder. Unlike a saree, the Gamusha does not have a blouse or petticoat, and is usually worn with a simple cotton or silk undershirt.
