Description
The Assamese Japi clock is a unique and traditional form of clock that originated in the state of Assam in India. It is a combination of two traditional Assamese crafts – the Japi, a type of conical hat made from bamboo and cane, and the clockmaking tradition of the region.
The Japi clock is made by hand using natural materials such as bamboo, cane, and cow dung. The process begins with the construction of the base using a round piece of bamboo. The base is then covered with layers of cow dung mixed with clay, which is then left to dry in the sun. This layer provides a smooth surface for the clock to be painted on.
The next step is to create the clock face, which is made from a circular piece of cane. The numbers and markings on the clock face are hand-painted with natural dyes, giving each clock a unique and rustic look.
