Description
Gamusa, also known as Gamocha, is a traditional handwoven cotton towel or cloth that is an integral part of the Assamese culture. It holds great significance in the daily life of the Assamese people and is seen as a symbol of their identity and pride.
The word "Gamusa" is derived from two Assamese words - "Ga" meaning body and "Musa" meaning wipe. As the name suggests, Gamusa is primarily used for wiping the body, but it also serves various other purposes in Assamese households.
Gamusa is typically a rectangular-shaped cloth with a length of about 3-5 feet and a width of 1-2 feet. It is usually made of pure cotton and is handwoven on a traditional loom. The most common colors used in Gamusa are white, red, and black, but nowadays, it is also available in various other colors and designs.
