Black Pure Handloom Dhakai Jamdani Saree is one of the most iconic and renowned sarees from Bengal, India. It is a traditional saree that is handwoven using pure cotton or silk threads by skilled weavers, known as “jamdani” weavers. Originating in the Dhaka region of Bangladesh, this saree has a rich history dating back to the 17th century during the Mughal era. It was considered a royal fabric and was often worn by the Mughal emperors and their courtiers. The word “jamdani” is derived from the Persian word “jam” meaning flower and “dani” meaning vase. This refers to the intricate floral and paisley motifs that are woven into the saree using a special technique called “brocade”. The motifs are created by interweaving additional weft threads into the base fabric, which is known as the “jamdani” weave.
