Description
Chikankari Salwar Kameez is a traditional Indian outfit that originated in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It is known for its delicate and intricate hand embroidery, which is done using a white cotton thread on a variety of fabrics such as cotton, chiffon, georgette, silk, and organza.
The term "chikankari" comes from the Persian word "chikan" which means embroidery. It was introduced in India by the Mughals who brought skilled artisans from Persia to create these beautiful embroideries. Over time, the craft evolved and became an integral part of the culture and heritage of Lucknow.
The Salwar Kameez is a three-piece garment that consists of a long tunic called the kameez, loose-fitted pants called the salwar, and a scarf called the dupatta. Chikankari embroidery is done on the kameez and the dupatta, while the salwar is usually plain.
