The term "Dhakai" refers to the city of Dhaka in present-day Bangladesh, which is famous for its exquisite weaving techniques and intricate designs. This saree is known for its lightweight and sheer texture, making it ideal for wearing in the hot and humid climate of Bengal. The saree is draped over the shoulder and pleated around the waist, with one end of the fabric tucked into the waistband and the other end draped over the shoulder. It is usually worn with a matching blouse known as "choli" or "blouse piece. " The intricate patterns and designs on the saree are created by skilled weavers using a traditional weaving technique called "Jamdani. " In this technique, the motifs are created by intertwining the weft threads into the warp threads, resulting in beautiful and delicate patterns.
