Description
Jambill Athong Jamborong or Jambili Athong is a type of traditional sling bag used by the Ao Naga community in the northeastern state of Nagaland, India. It is made from locally available materials such as cotton, wool, and bamboo.
The Jambill Athong Jamborong is a rectangular-shaped bag with a flap cover, typically measuring around 12-15 inches in length and 8-10 inches in width. The bag is designed to be worn diagonally across the body, with the strap passing over one shoulder and the bag resting on the opposite hip.
The bag is traditionally hand-woven, with intricate designs and patterns created using different colored threads. The main colors used are red, black, and white, which hold symbolic significance in the Ao Naga culture. For example, red represents bravery and courage, black symbolizes wealth and prosperity, and white represents purity and peace.
