Description
Kosi is a river that flows through the Himalayan region in India and Nepal. It originates in Tibet and runs through Nepal before finally joining the Ganges River in India. It is also known as the "Sorrow of Bihar" due to its tendency to flood and cause devastation in the region.
The total length of the Kosi river is approximately 720 kilometers, with 695 kilometers in Nepal and the remaining 25 kilometers in India. It is a trans-boundary river and forms a natural boundary between Nepal and India in some areas.
The river is a vital source of water for both Nepal and India, providing irrigation for agriculture and supporting the livelihoods of millions of people. It is also an important source of hydropower, with several dams being built on its tributaries.
The Kosi river basin is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, making it an important ecological hotspot.
