Description
Off White Pure Handloom Kantha Stitch from Bengal is a traditional form of embroidery that originated in the state of West Bengal, India. It is a unique and intricate stitching technique that is characterized by its geometric patterns and vibrant colors. The word "kantha" means "rags" in Sanskrit, and this form of embroidery was traditionally done on old, worn out garments such as saris, dhotis, and quilts. The women of rural Bengal would use layers of these old clothes and stitch them together with a running stitch, creating beautiful and functional pieces. The process of creating a Kantha stitch piece begins with the selection of fabric. The most common fabric used is pure cotton, which is ideal for the embroidery because it is soft, lightweight, and easy to manipulate. The fabric is then washed, dried, and ironed to prepare it for stitching. The stitching process is done entirely by hand using a long, thin needle and colored threads.
